The Dancers

How does one stage a poem?

This was the challenge that CCA faced once the decision to produce Meghadootam was made. This poem is not just about a man and a woman in love or about the pangs of separation, longing and despair. Nature is a compelling lead player in this epic story. Through the cloud messenger's exquisite nuances of character - now minstrel, now messenger, now wanderer and well wisher - the poem examines, in lyrical ways, the oneness of man and nature.

For this profoundly creative production, CCA sought and engaged performers who were not only skilled in classical dance but also had the sensitivity and imagination to take the audience on a journey of rare discovery - of the beauty of an ancient language, the inner and outer worlds of estranged love and the unmatched poetic genius of Kalidasa.
